Chef Dave in the News:
Cooking Up Romance
Add some sizzle to your relationship with a cooking class
BY BLYTHE EGAN

WHETHER YOU ARE NEWLY WED, RECENTLY retired or
somewhere in between, summer is the perfect time to add a little spice to
your relationship. And what better way to cook up a little romance than to
take a cooking class together?

“The art of cooking is among the most intimate things that we can do for
one another,” explained Charlie Trotter, restaurateur and PBS cooking
instructor. Cooking together allows couples to relax, focus on the task at
hand and share their passion for favorite foods. It’s also a great way for
couples to reconnect after a long workweek.

“We are seeing more and more couples in our classes,” said Sous Chef Larry
Medinger of Ravioli’s Bistro in Lake Elsinore, which offers cooking classes
every other Monday night. “It makes a great date.”

Personal Chef Dave Collins agrees. A chef for more than 20 years, Collins is
a professional instructor at Villa Toscana in Temecula Valley - rated on of
the top cooking classes in Southern California by ABC 7 and
losangelescitysearch.com. Chef Dave’s classes are limited to 16 students,
allowing for lively interaction among participants and a more intimate
experience. “It’s a good bonding time,” said Collins, adding “You shouldn't
be afraid to try anything once!”

Cheryl and Les Evans of Canyon Lake heard about Chef Dave’s Class and
though it might make an interesting evening. “It was a social event and
more fun than just going out to dinner,” explained Cheryl.

Classes at Villa Toscana are held inside the kitchen or outside over-looking
the vineyards. Students have the option of observing Chef Dave prepare a
full, five- course menu or are welcome to volunteer in the kitchen for a
more hands-on experience. Generous portions of every course are served,
along with wines from local wineries, incorporating fresh ingredient form
the gardens there.

Chef Dave advises students to dress casually and comfortably – but avoid
long, loose fitting sleeves if they plan on helping in the kitchen. Participants
are not required to bring anything to class other than a healthy appetite and
an interest in good food.

“The class has gotten my husband Phil away from the media center[and]
into the kitchen,” said Debbie Manville of Fallbrook, who recently attended
a cooking class at The Kitchen Witch in Encinitas. “We have been
entertaining so much more now that we share the cooking. We love cooking
together [now]!” UTS
